Building a Biz: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Starting a business can be one of the most exciting things you can do in your life, but there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that we absolutely HAVE to talk about.

Behind every business is blood (hopefully not too much though because if there’s a lot of blood you’re probably doing something wrong), sweat (so much sweat) and tears but so often we see businesses thriving and don’t see what happens behind the scenes.

Honestly -- I’m tired of this unrealistic expectation on what it actually means to build a business and I’m going to tell you right now, the good absolutely outweighs the bad, but we have to talk about the bad and the ugly too… because this is my podcast and I can do what I want!

As creatives, we can often talk ourselves out of even thinking about starting a business because we think that we can’t handle the backend responsibilities (like tax time -- don’t worry, thinking about it gives me hives too) but that doesn’t mean you aren’t capable.

Starting a business can be one of the most exciting things you can do in your life, but there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that we absolutely HAVE...

In this episode we break down:

  • That feeling the first morning you wake up and you’re your own boss (grab the coffee and plenty of it because honey, you probably didn’t sleep the night before).

  • How to pick your own schedule and not be a slave to it.

  • How you WILL have to deal with the scarcity mindset and how to not let it rule you.

  • How changing ONE thing you’re saying can actually create more freedom in your life (hint: stop saying you’re “busy.” It isn’t working.)

  • My personal favourite: Having flexibility doesn’t NOT equal freedom (louder for the people in the back)!
