5 Simple Steps to Building Your Clientele

“now is the perfect time to build your clientele”

There’s no doubt about it, our industry took a big hit in 2020.

With covid, quarantines, and too many shutdowns to count, there’s no question that your biz looks different now than it did a year ago.

It might even be the first time in a long time that you need to rebuild your clientele. And with no end in sight to this pandemic you’re wondering:

“How the heck am I supposed to grow my business??”

I totally get it. And I want to help guide you through it.

That’s why I’m sharing the 5 Simple Steps to Grow Your Clientele.

This isn’t some secret that I’ve been keeping, in fact, you’ve probably heard about them before. But sometimes you need to hear things a few different ways before it really clicks. Am I right?

5 Simple Steps to Grow Your Clientele:

Step 1: Talk to strangers

Yup, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Talking to strangers is how I got myself fully booked, months in advance, in under 12 weeks. It’s going to be awkward at first, if you aren’t used to talking to strangers it’s going to feel foreign.

But practice makes progress. And I always say, start with a compliment. That’s all you need to do to get out and talk to strangers. Start with a compliment.

Step 2: Get uncomfortable

If you’re an introvert like me, this step seems like it’ll be a breeze. “Yeah Dawn, talking to strangers is OBVIOUSLY gonna make me uncomfortable… What does that have to do with growing my clientele??”

Growth happens when we step outside of our comfort zone. Ugh, I know, why can’t we stay safe and comfortable forever, right?

But it’s in that discomfort that we grow. Think about working out, when you’re working out you’re literally ripping apart your muscle (that’s what makes it so sore afterwards), but it’s in that discomfort that we know we’re making progress.

Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.

Step 3: Don’t give up

Now before you gaze over this step because you don’t think it’s important. I want to tell you about the emotional cycle of change.

I can guarantee that you’ve gone through this cycle before (I’ve done it too many times to count). You start off really excited about something you haven’t done before.

“I can do this!” enthusiastically cheers inside your brain as you set off on the journey. Then things get hard, roadblocks and detours start appearing and you realize “this is hard… I don’t know if I can make it”. If you keep pushing you’ll come to realize that “Yes, this is hard, but I can do it”. And that’s the stage right before success.

Unfortunately, too often we give up in the “this is hard, I can’t do it” stage. We see someone else doing it a different way and think “yeah that’s easier, I’ll do that” and we start the cycle again. Always ending before we reach success because “it’s hard”.

It’s going to be difficult. I wish there was an easy route to success, but the only way to get there is to do the work. And not give up.

Step 4: Give yourself time to rest

This is so so important when it comes to growth.

I know you’re over the “hustle” mentality. You’ve been there, done that and have only seen results of overwhelm and burnout.

Rest is really important and it's pivotal to your success.

Especially with building a clientele. Because if you're going to work and you're working all day and then you're going out and building a clientele 7 days a week, you're going to get exhausted. You're going to get frustrated. You're going to get overwhelmed. And without that rest and recovery, you're not going to be able to have the energy to continue on.

Make sure to take time for yourself. You’re worth it.

Step 5: Repeat the process

Remember how I told you that your career isn’t a linear journey, but a cyclical one? Yup, that’s why this is a cyclical process as well!

This isn’t going to happen overnight, but it will happen quicker than you think it will.

The really important thing I want you to know about all of this is you don't want just anybody in your chair. Right? That's the thing, you want to make sure that you get clients who you love.

Because the last thing that I want for you is to end up with a full clientele of people that drain you, that frustrate you and that disrespect you.

I want you to Have a Chair Full of Clients That Respect You, Trust You & Pay You. That’s why I’m hosting a live class on January 10th and 11th all about doubling your bookings without doubling your work.
