Will you be the next success story? Buckle up and let’s dive in…

How to Move Past Breaking Even

Now before you start making excuses that there’s no way this could ever happen to you, I want to let you know that Krista, Lauren, and Jen aren’t magical unicorns. They don’t have massive social media followings, they don’t have huge businesses. All of them are self-employed beauty professionals who have changed the way they look at earning their income.

Before they made the change, they were just like so many other beauty professionals living paycheck to paycheck. I used to do that too. That’s part of my passion to change that.

I worked myself to the ground, and burned myself out to the point of ending up in a hospital bed. And I don’t want you to ever have to go through that. I’m on a mission to change the way our industry is viewed and part of that starts with changing the way we earn.

What Does it Mean to Break Even?

I’ll be honest with you, when I first became self-employed, if there was any money in my bank account, I would spend it. I would use anything I had, regardless of whether I needed that money next month for bills or taxes. I was so nonchalant about my money that I even stole $20,000 from my own business…

By the second year in business, I had hit the coveted 6-figure mark and I was so proud

Unfortunately, I was only looking at how much money was coming into my business, not how much was going out. Turns out I actually took home less than I did the year before, talk about a rude awakening.

Despite bringing in more money, I managed to spend most of it. And what good is making six figures, if you’re barely taking home a single figure?

Money has always been one of those things I’ve felt embarrassed about. And when I was starting out, I knew practically nothing. I felt dumb. And the dumber I felt, the less I asked for help. I didn’t want to get help because I was embarrassed for anyone to see how dumb I felt.

But guess what? I didn’t go into business to be good at numbers and calculating finances. I started my own business because I wanted to do things differently.

I went into business for myself because I loved the freedom to take care of my guests the way I wanted to. Not because I was pumped about money and finances and bookkeeping. And I’ve got a feeling that you’re the same.

I want you to know that you can create more revenue and take home more money, without being an accountant or a bookkeeper. Being able to increase your income while decreasing your spending is one of the most rewarding things.

And while money isn’t everything, it can give you opportunities.

In 2020, my business’s gross income doubled. And it actually had four X the net, which means that the costs of doing business were lower. And that allowed me to invest back into my business in different ways.

So I want you to start thinking, what kinds of things would you do in your life and business if you had more cash flow? If you weren’t stressed about the money? What’s your definition of success?

How Do You Break Even?

When Krista joined Rock Your Business she was in her first year running her own business and she was making $18,000. After taking Rock Your Business she was able to increase her income 150%!

During a pandemic, and only her second year in business, Krista made $45,000.

She says she’s excited to continue to implement all the things she’s learned and bring more income into her life and business.

I can’t even begin to tell you how proud I am of Krista.

She took a leap of faith, she didn’t wait until the “right” moment and now look at how much she’s grown her business in just a single year?

I don’t want you to get stuck in the cycle of thinking you can’t make your business grow until you…

  • Have more money

  • Paint the walls in your salon

  • Get the “professional” space you’ve been wanting

While all those things are great, you can’t let it become your excuse. Stop waiting for something to give you permission. It’s time to stop thinking that increasing your income is something big and hard and time-consuming and that you have to wait until you have enough time, or energy, or resources.

Krista did it with small, everyday implementation. And you can do that too! It’s showing up in the little things.

Earning 6-Figures (Stress-Free)

Before taking Rock Your Business, Lauren was double-booked to the max, working 50+ hours each week, consistently staying late past her scheduled time, and quite frankly, burnt out. You can learn more about Lauren’s story here.

She was taking home $45,000, which isn’t anything to turn your nose at. But Lauren knew that she needed to make some changes.

After taking Rock Your Business, Lauren just got her taxes back. She was a little nervous, ‘cause let’s be honest, there’s nothing fun about taxes! Turns out Lauren didn’t have anything to worry about, she ended up making $100,000 (after everything, she net $100k, how freakin’ awesome is that??).

For Lauren, part of her journey to six-figures was creating boundaries in her business. Not only is she working less, but she’s earning more than when she was double-booked.

She’s found her own definition of success and is totally crushing it.

Why is it Important to Break Even?

Jennifer has been running her own lash business for 5 years. Before going through Rock Your Business she was making $70,000 a year, averaging about $500 a day.

After going through the mentorship program, she is now taking home $600-$800 daily and projected to hit $95,000 only working 4 days a week.

She says that Rock Your Business has helped her life have a plan.

Jen’s confident in her plan for her business and she’s doing it her own way on her own schedule.

You don’t have to be a hairstylist to grow your business, if you’re in a different beauty profession and no one else is doing these things that’s even more of a reason to do it! This is what sets you apart and makes you different than everyone else.

Although I share things from a hairstylist’s perspective, you can apply this to any beauty profession.

Rocking Your Business

So the secret (that’s not really a secret) that Krista, Lauren and Jen share is that they’ve all taken Rock Your Business

They’ve all learned how to increase their income while decreasing their stress, anxiety, and their workload.

Because let’s be honest, there’s a lot of business advice out there that works, but for people like you and me, who’s brains work differently, it doesn’t work for us.

And I want to make sure that you’re taking care of yourself first and foremost.

It would be really easy for me to show you how to create more revenue and more income. But it would also require you to do a bunch of stuff that would then overwhelm you and no longer be maintainable.

And I don’t want to do that to you.

That’s why I created my program, Rock Your Business, to help people like us so that we’re not overwhelmed. So that we can ditch the over-complicating and the over-thinking. And instead lean into our creativity and how we work best.

Krista, Lauren and Jennifer all trusted and believed in themselves and they took the things they learned inside of Rock Your Business and implemented them in small, easy ways.

All it took was showing up each day.

Here are some of their favourite parts of Rock Your Business:

  • Krista enjoyed that the way the course was laid out wasn’t intimidating and everyone is really down to Earth (especially Dawn)

  • Lauren found that RYB helped simplify everything in her head that she had been trying to figure out how to do. It also helped remove her fears of making changes in business.

  • Jennifer appreciates that RYB held her accountable to herself and helped her set healthy boundaries with clients. Being able to confidently say “no” has been huge in her business

And friend, I want you to be the next success story that I share. What will your story be? How will I be able to brag about you? Where will you be at six months from now, or a year from now?

I would love to be able to walk alongside you, mentor you and help you start increasing your income to become that six-figure earner, without all the stress that you’ve been carrying.

If these stories inspired you, why don’t you shoot me a DM over on Instagram @dawnbradleyhair? I seriously love hearing from you.

Until next time, friend.
